Beverly School for the Deaf

A partner story, with Madeleine — Music Teacher

Beverly School for the Deaf (CCCBSD) is the first school to bring Tactus into the classroom. Since January 2026, Tactus vests have been part of everyday music class, helping Deaf Education and Special Education students, ages 6 to 18, feel rhythm, dynamics, and expression across their bodies.

Their story

Working with Tactus vests has been an incredibly meaningful addition to our music program at Beverly School for the Deaf (CCCBSD). Since January, we have incorporated three vests into multiple units across both our Deaf Education and Special Education classrooms, and the impact has been remarkable.

During our “World Concert” unit, students explored music from different countries, experiencing each culture through sound and vibration. The vests allowed students to physically feel rhythm, dynamics, and musical expression in a way that made global music more accessible and engaging. We also used the vests during our musical theater unit, where we studied Beauty and the Beast and Frozen. These experiences brought performances to life, allowing students to connect more deeply with the music and storytelling.

For our Deaf Education students, the vests serve as a powerful tool to access sound through vibration, enhancing their ability to perceive and engage with music. For our Special Education students, the vests provide valuable sensory input, supporting regulation, attention, and overall engagement.

Across the board, our students absolutely love using the vests. They are not only effective educational tools but also create joy, excitement, and inclusivity in the classroom.
